The Great Migration- the greatest movement of animals

In African Safari every year millions of wild beasts joined by thousands of zebras and gazelle walk a stretch of 1800 miles in search of green pastures. This trek takes place in Serengeti Masai Mara ecosystem.  This trekking called as The Great Migration begins in late January and continues to February and is the greatest movement of land animals on our planet. The wild beasts begin their journey in the south eastern part of Serengeti along with their calves.

These beasts remain in the grass lands of the west till mid July. Then these great herds cross over to Masai Mara after the short rains and stay here up to October. After November when the grass here gets dried up they again start their journey to the plains in south eastern Serengeti where rains are due. They arrive around February to complete the cycle at the calving grounds. During this migration it is estimated that around 2, 50,000 beasts lose their lives to predators or disease. But the next calving produces double that number.

Thus, The Great Migration is a sight worth watching and because of the efforts of the conservationists the number of these wild beasts is increasing every year.
